AVIATION DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL, ITS AIRLINE MEMBERS AND PORT AUTHORITY PRESENT GRANT CHECK TO NEWARK EMERGENCY SERVICES FOR FAMILIES’ (NESF) ‘OUR PLACE’ AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM

Aviation Development Council (ADC), a bridge organization between the regional aviation industry and the communities it serves, is proud to announce its partnership with its airline board members, the Port Authority of NY & NJ, and the Newark Emergency Services for Families (NESF, Inc.) as a grant supporter of ‘Our Place’ – a Newark Emergency Services for Families after-school and summer program that offers stability, security, and structure to children of homeless families in the Newark community. Aviation Development Council’s support of this invaluable children’s enrichment program was the result of some recent dialogue between ADC’s airline partners and the community affairs office of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

“Aviation Development Council has formulated a community outreach programwhich is focused on youth education, youth leadership development, and youth wellness.  We were looking for a worthwhile initiative in the Newark area and began discussions with our industry partners, like Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Air Canada, and the Port Authority.  The Newark Emergency Services for Families’ after-school program, ‘Our Place’, became a natural choice for our local outreach efforts,’’ states Bill Huisman, the Director of the ADC.  “We are demonstrating the regional aviation industry’s concern for the needs of the youth of the communities it serves through our grant outreach program and we appreciate the support we receive from the Port Authority and our airline partners.  ADC is pleased to be helping NESF with this creditable and deserving program which offers tutoring, counseling, support and a safe-haven to children in need within the Newark community.  We are very proud to be an ‘Our Place’ supporter,” stated Lisa Pierce, ADC board member & Air Canada executive, here in the New York region.

“Newark Emergency Services for Families Inc. is honored to be selected as a $7500 grant recipient of the Aviation Development Council & its member airlines,” stated Shelia T. Baynes, the Executive Director.  “Their concern for youth education, leadership and wellness matches up with the mission of our after-school program, “Our Place.”  We have run this program for four years and the support of organizations, like ADC, have helped us give these children, who have experienced the devastation of homelessness, a reassuring & enriching experience with the help of our caring and devoted staff.

Over the summer, “Our Place”, was able to have a nutritionist educate the children on fun ways to eat healthy.  The children were also exposed to ways to maintain a healthy mind and body.  Our summer program and new Yoga classes were a big hit, and unbeknownst to the children, they were getting mental and physical health practices that they can use for the rest of their lives.  These are opportunities that ADC helped make possible through their support, and for that we are very grateful.”

AVIATION DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL & PORT AUTHORITY HELP SCHOOL KIDS ‘DIG’ HISTORY AT KING MANOR MUSEUM’S ARCHEOLOGY EDUCATION PROGRAM

Aviation Development Council (ADC), a bridge organization between the regional aviation industry and the communities it serves, is proud to announce its partnership with its airline board members, the Port Authority of NY & NJ, and King Manor Museum, as a sponsor of King Manor Museum’s on-site school program for over 4,000 visiting students, teachers, and chaperones.  This valuable school education program allows groups of 4th through 6th graders to be introduced to important local history through the discipline of archeology.  The educational program utilizes artifacts similar to those unearthed on King Manor’s grounds, as well as many of the exhibits housed at the museum.  Participating classes also get to visit the King Manor excavation site, speak to archeologists, and even view artifacts removed from the grounds.  Aviation Development Council’s sponsorship of this school visitation program was the result of some dialogue between ADC’s board member airlines and the community affairs office of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

“Aviation Development Council has formulated a community outreach programwhich is focused on youth education, youth leadership development, and youth wellness.  We were looking for a worthwhile initiative in the Jamaica area and began discussions with our industry partners, like Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Air Canada, and the Port Authority.  The King Manor Museum’s on-site school program became a natural choice for our local outreach efforts’’, states Bill Huisman, the Director of the Aviation Development Council.  “We are demonstrating the regional aviation industry’s concern for the youth of the communities it serves through our community outreach program and appreciate the support we receive from the Port Authority and our airline board members.  We are pleased to be helping the King Manor Museum with this exciting program which helps to educate young people throughout Queens and our city schools about the importance of our local history and how our community developed over time”, continued Mr. Huisman.

"King Manor Museum’s primary mission is history education," noted the Museum’s Executive Director, Mary Anne Mrozinski, "and this program -- the only one of its kind in the city -- is designed to introduce children to the notion that history is all around us – even beneath our feet!”

King Manor Museum was the home and farm of one of our country’s Founding Fathers, Rufus King, from 1805 to 1827.  Rufus King was an author of the U.S. Constitution, as well as one of New York's first United States Senators, Ambassador to Great Britain and an early, and outspoken, opponent of slavery.  King Manor later became the estate of King's son, John Alsop King, who served as New York's Governor.  King Manor has been a museum since 1900
